The Herd was established
in 2001 with six cows from the Carley Herd (bred by Mr Vincent Cartwright)
and three heifers from the famous Champson Herd (bred by Mr W Dart).
All our foundation cows are full pedigree animals with clean blood
lines. None of our cattle
have any graded up ancestry, they are all 100% Red Ruby Devon!
Our current stock bull is Whitefield Desireabull.
His sire is Knoll Gy Nor Mouse and his dam is Whitefield Orange 127th,
part of the famous Orange line. Gy
Nor Mouse was prolifically successful in the show ring being Breed
Champion on numerous occasions.
The Whitefield Herd is one of the longest established herds in the
country and produce many fine bulls.
Our stock bull Whitefield Desireabull is a handsome bull of
good colour and very correct head. He
has good length. He has good
legs and feet; his back legs being strong and of particularly good
confirmation.
The
herd is certified organic and is a closed herd.
Each year we sell a draught of maiden heifers or in-calf heifers;
whatever the buyers requirements. We
generally sell one or two young in-calf cows with or without
calves at foot.
We aim to produce a good
milking cow of good size, length, and true Red Ruby Devon characteristics.
We show each year as time permits. For the past three years we have participated in the
Society’s national Herd Competition and have won and been placed 3rd
in the Small Herd (14 cows) category.
You
are welcome to visit the farm to look at the herd at any time (by
appointment). Maiden heifers
are generally available from March onwards.
