Shepherds Flock Wool Products

Shepherds Flock traditional All Wool Throws and Scarves are made from the wool of Blacklake Farm’s pedigree flock of Dorset Down Sheep.

Dorset Down Sheep are one of the oldest native English breeds, and are currently on the Rare Breeds Register.  They have many good qualities, not least the calibre of their wool which is amongst the best of all British wools.  The fleece is dense, soft, and creamy white.  It produces a soft, lively fine yarn.  Our wool products are made from an equal mix of Dorset Down yarn and merino yarn.  We find the two yarns are an excellent combination and enable us to produce a good quality cloth.

Shepherds Flock Throws and Scarves come in a number of soft, country colours.  The weave and colour-ways are designed by Catherine and Nick Broomfield at Blacklake Farm.   The cloth is exclusively woven for us by a traditional artisan mill.

The story of Shepherds Flock starts with the Dorset Down Sheep.  From shearing the sheep every Spring, there is a lot more work to be done before producing the finished item.  Our aim is to produce something of real authenticity, quality and ultimately something that is a real pleasure to own.  Our aim is quality, not quantity. For example each throw is one of only 40 made in a particular weave and colour.

Shepherds Flock can only be purchased direct from Blacklake Farm.

We attend events in the West Country, Home Counties and London between September and December. Please email Catherine for more details of dates and venues.
