Breed Qualities

The Red Ruby Devon Cow has been an integral part of the agricultural scene of Britain for centuries and is one of our oldest native breeds.  Their coats are a beautiful dark rich terracotta which has earned them the name “Red Rubies”.  Blacklake Farm’s pedigree herd of Red Ruby Devon’s produces  100% organic grass fed, slow maturing beef.  Hung for 3-4 weeks prior to cutting.  Good marbling, tender and flavoursome. Available in small, convenient Beef Selection Packs of fresh meat ready to eat or freeze.

The Dorset Down Sheep is known as “King of the Prime Lamb Breed”, Dorset Down lamb is characterised by it’s sweet, delicate flavour.  Blacklake Farm’s pedigree flock of Dorset Down Sheep have a diet of organic grass and  a small percentage of organic grains added to the diet depending on weather and grass conditions.  Hung for 7-12 days.  Tender and succulent with delicate flavour. Available as half or whole lamb packs of fresh meat ready to eat or freeze.

Blacklake Farm’s pigs are free ranging on our organic pastures and also have a GM free feed of pig nuts.  Our pigs are not certified by Soil Association due to small scale of production. Slow maturing.  Finished at 24-30 weeks which is nearly double the time of commercially produced pork.  Our pork is rich, textured and not at all “dry”.  It produces consistently good crackling.
